Hi Guys! Back in January I wrote about DMSO and y’all ran with it! That post stayed my most read piece for a long stretch, right up until the parasite series took off. The comments kept coming for months and keep coming in each week even now. What I heard, over and over, was not “what is this stuff?” It was “Tammi, how do I actually use it without hurting myself?”
That ]first post skimmed the surface. I told you what DMSO is, I told you about my husband’s psoriasis, I tossed out some doses I had found online, and I sent you on your way. Then you taught me in the comments.
Sprains, cats, sinuses, hemorrhoids, neuropathy, gout, mold, fungus, tennis elbow, and hundreds more questions that all showed me how correct I was to call DMSO the Swiss Army knife for health hacks. It really does threat everything!
This past Saturday, a yard full of ground wasps made me go back to the bottle and look at it with new eyes. So this is the post I should have written the first time. It is a working manual with all you need to know.
Screenshot the dilution chart. Tape it inside the cabinet door. If you asked a question under that first post, thank you! You helped write this post because I didn’t know what I didn’t know.
Because I have to say it… I am not your doctor. (Duh!) This is what I use on this farm, what readers have written me, and what I have learned since January. Do your own research. If you are pregnant, on blood thinners, or walking a serious diagnosis, talk to someone who knows your chart before you open the bottle. Do your own research and ask a pro if you aren’t sure.

Saturday Emergency in the Yard
My dear friend Emma keeps a bottle of the my go to spray DMSO Silver Spray in her medicine cabinet. This past Saturday her daughter in law called in a panic. Her son Eric had been mowing. Ground wasps came up out of the dirt and aggressively attacked him!
This is the message she sent me:
“Eric got stung by tons of ground wasps all over his body from mowing! He is swollen on side of neck, face and his hand and his feet and his head up by his temple. He is feverish. He is tired. Danielle gave him a Benadryl and I have been putting your solution on him and it is taking the swelling down along with the feverish spots!!! It took the severe itch and pain away within a few minutes! They have always rolled their eyes at me with my natural remedies but not this time! In fact, they are bringing Eric over in the morning for another wash of that solution!”
This was a serious situation that could have been much worse! His neck and face were swollen. He was feverish and tired. That is a mama’s stomach drop kind of picture. A mass of ground wasp stings can cause a a painful local reaction and it can also climb if the venom reaches the bloodstream.
Face and neck swelling is the line that makes you watch the throat and the breath. People have died from their airways getting too swollen to breathe. I am glad they gave him Benadryl. And, I am very glad they brought him to somebody who had the DMSO Silver Solution in her cabinet.

I do not know how far Eric’s body would have gone without that spray. I cannot stand in front of you and say the bottle stopped full anaphylactic shock. True shock is epinephrine, an ambulance, and a hospital, and this spray does not replace any of that.
What I can say is what his family watched with their own eyes. The swelling started coming down, the feverish spots cooled, and the itch and the pain backed off within minutes of the wash. The family that used to roll their eyes drove him back the next morning for another one. As of last night, only 3 days after countless venomous stings, he was back to normal! Talk about a success story!
If I had been the one on the phone in that first minute, I would have hesitated to advise her to use the silver, dmso, aloe solution. I have spent a year telling people DMSO is a hall pass through the skin. My first thought was, will this carry wasp venom deeper? That question is the whole reason this whole blog section exists.

What I Did Not Know Until Saturday
Ground wasps nest in the dirt and come up out of the ground attacking the person on the mower like a war and inject their venom under the skin. The venom is made of peptides and enzymes. Those molecules poke holes in cells, dump histamine, light up pain nerves, and pull fluid into the tissue. That is the heat, the puff, the itch, and the tired flu feeling after a lot of stings.
The venom is already inside the body. Past the skin and definitely not sitting on top of the skin waiting for DMSO to pick it up and shove it deeper, the way nicotine from a cigarette or fertilizer dust on a dirty forearm can ride in. The emergency in that yard was the fire the venom had already started.
What the spray walked into was that fire. DMSO blocked pain at the nerve ending, quieted the swelling, mopped the free radicals the venom threw off, and pulled fluid out of the puffy tissue. Veterinarians have used that same set of jobs for years on the local wreckage of snakebite.
If this happens at your house: Wipe the skin clean, then spray. Watch the breath, the throat, the eyes, and the dizziness. If those turn, you leave the bottle on the counter and you get your butt to the ER!

DMSO MultiTasks Five Jobs at Once
- DMSO does not invent a new trick for every ailment. It brings the same small set of jobs into whatever “room is on fire.” It walks through skin and membranes and can take small helpers with it. That is the delivery truck, and that is also the warning label.
- It turns down pain at the nerve ending. That is why Kim’s ankle and Eric’s welts changed in minutes instead of days.
- It quiets the cytokine storm so heat and swelling have somewhere to go besides bigger.
- It is one of the best hydroxyl free radical scavengers we can keep on a homestead shelf. Hydroxyl radicals are the sparks flying off burns, venom, metals, radiation, and a lot of the chemical load we talk about in the invisible war. When DMSO mops those sparks tissue gets a chance to quit cooking itself.
- It pulls fluid and brings blood back to the area. That is why a sprain looks different in the morning, why hemorrhoids calm down, and why Eric’s feverish spots cooled.
Those five jobs are why one bottle can look like it does everything. Once you see that, the Swiss Army list stops feeling like a magic catalog and starts feeling like a cabinet tool you already understand.

Let’s Take the Weirdness Off This Bottle
A lot of people never open DMSO because it sounds like a shop solvent, have heard it can make you smell like garlic, and somebody on the internet made it sound like a secret the government hid under a floorboard.
Here is what I learned…
Hospitals already put DMSO into bladders for interstitial cystitis. That is a labeled human use. Veterinarians have used it on sore horses and swollen dogs for decades. The body oxidizes a good deal of DMSO into MSM, the joint sulfur sitting on the same shelf as magnesium. You have probably bought MSM without thinking twice.
The garlic oyster breath is dimethyl sulfide leaving through the lungs and the skin. It is chemistry, not dirtiness. Some people notice the odor is stronger when their internal load is heavier, and quieter after they have been “cleaning house” for a while.
I use it daily and haven’t noticed this – and I’ve tried to find it. I didn’t notice it at first either. Some people shy away because they hear horror stories of people stinking. I think that this must be rare, but happens. Even so, the benefit is worth it IMO.
The reason this never became the cream next to ibuprofen is not mysterious if you have watched how medicine works. DMSO is cheap. You cannot patent a wood pulp cousin the way you patent a new molecule. In the mid 1960s the FDA froze a lot of human work after animal findings that did not play out the same way in people. The bottle went sideways into vet clinics, athletic bags, and kitchen cabinets which is how most of us found it.

How to Buy & Store DMSO
Look for pharmaceutical or medical grade at 99.9 percent or better sold in glass when you can get it. Industrial DMSO is a solvent for paint and resin. If the bottle says “solvent” and nothing else, leave it in the shop. I bought a gallon in glass years ago and I still work out of that jug.
Glass is the best home for DMSO. HDPE plastic is the ONLY other decent option. Skip flimsy water bottle plastic, PVC, and cheap rubber droppers. DMSO will pull junk out of the wrong container and then carry that junk into you.
Pure DMSO freezes at about 65°F! When you pull the bottle off the shelves and see it’s full of crystals you will think you ruined it. You did not. Set the bottle in warm water, not boiling water and it comes back to liquid. Frozen DMSO is still DMSO. Diluted mixes freeze less readily, which is one quiet way people confirm they actually added water.
Off topic but this fascinated me so much! Once, after thawing it for use I decided to do an experiment. I left the glass jug on the counter next to my healing tone machine. I let the machine play the Solfeggio tone in 963Hz. Below are the crystals that grew. I think it’s interesting that it first grew a bridge across the top of the dmso and then the other structures seems to grow from it.
The First Ten Minutes
When dmso is applied the skin often warms. It may pink. Some people taste garlic within a minute, even from a knee, because the dmso hit yoir bloodstream and is already on its way through your body. A thirty second sting or mild burning sensation is common. My husband said the psoriasis spray burned like hell for about thirty seconds and then the plaques started melting off within days. Eric’s family watched itch and pain back up within a few minutes.
That short heat is the dmso working. A rash that keeps spreading, blistering, or climbing up the arm is your STOP SIGN! Rinse, put plain aloe on it, and come back another day with a weaker mix.

How to Apply DMSO
Wash the skin with a plain soap and dry it. Skip lotion, perfume, nicotine on the fingers, and yard chemicals as they can slip into your bloodstream.
*****YOU MUST APPLY DMSO TO CLEAN SKIN!*****
This is pretty much the only way you can mess up this whole protocol so don’t skip this step!
Use a cotton ball, a clean spray bottle, or a gloved hand. I like a spray for large areas and a cotton ball when I want to stay on one joint. Paint past the sore spot, not a postage stamp on top of it. Pain and swelling live in in the whole region.
Let it dry. A minute is enough for a shirt. You do not have to rinse it off unless the skin is complaining. Wash your hands when you are done in case you come into contact with a toxin after application.
Gel stays put on a knee. Liquid is what I mix into sprays. Either one is fine if the grade is clean.

Dilution Ratios Matter
How strong you mix it depends on the job. I dilute DMSO with filtered clean living water or aloe juice. Then I add colloidal silver, a carrier oil, and an essential oil based on what I am treating.
This is the list y’all have been hunting for. I am not turning this post into another book. I already had one built from the first DMSO article, and you can look up a specific protocol there, free:

DMSO: The Forbidden Healer
Pain, joints, and the aches that holds you up: People reach for DMSO for arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, tendonitis, bursitis, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel, muscle strains, fibromyalgia, sciatica, and the kind of deep inflammatory pain that does not care about a pill. It’s great for sore muscles and tired feet too!
Injuries, swelling, and wrecks: Sprains, strains, bruises, contusions, and swelling after a twist all show up in the old literature and in this comment thread. Kim’s ankle is the picture I keep in my head now.
Skin: Psoriasis, eczema, rashes, scleroderma, burns, sunburn, cuts, abrasions, slow wounds, scars, tight old tissue, pressure sores, fungal patches, shingles, and insect stings are the skin jobs people write me about. The dmso, silver, aloe, tea tree spray is my first reach for angry skin. Christine paired DMSO with an antifungal and watched a fungal patch move in two days.
Toenail fungus, athlete’s foot, and the stubborn cousins: Thick yellow nails, itchy webs of the toes, and ringworm-looking patches are the same job Christine already showed us on skin. DMSO can carry tea tree, silver, or an antifungal into a nail bed that ordinary polish never reaches. Paint the nail and a little of the skin around it. Stay modest on strength near raw cracks. Give it weeks, not an afternoon.
Wounds and burns: Stay low and thin at 10 to 20 percent in aloe. Pat the area. Do not scrub.
Headaches: A little diluted DMSO at the temples has been a quick mercy for more than one person in this comment section. Keep it out of the eyes.

Ears, sinuses, teeth, and the everyday miseries of the head: Beth asked about a dilute nasal for a chronic sinus. People in the wider DMSO world talk about tinnitus, stubborn ear inflammation, gum pain, and the ache after dental work. If you go near a mucous membrane, you go very dilute, and you do not guess.
Nerves and the long illnesses people whisper about.: Readers and the older papers talk about neuropathy, stroke recovery support, topical comfort along the spine in MS, amyloidosis, and free radical work that crosses into neurological conversations. Bruce used a 50 to 70 percent topical mix on peripheral neuropathy and said the pain dropped about 60 percent over four weeks. I wish I knew this about <S while my dad was still here.
Autoimmune and inflammatory load: Rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, scleroderma, and the wider inflammatory pile are in the same conversation. DMSO is used there as a quieting agent and a carrier.

Bladder: Interstitial cystitis is the one use the FDA already signed off on, instilled into the bladder in a clinic. That is a doctor’s procedure, not a kitchen project.
Eyes: Greg asked about ocular swelling and about avoiding injections. I treat the eye area as sacred ground. Nothing goes in the eye from this cabinet unless an eye doctor is in the story. Around the orbital bone at a very low percent is as far as I will talk from this porch.
Infection support: DMSO has some antimicrobial action of its own, and it is even better known as the truck that carries silver, tea tree, iodine, and other helpers into a hot spot.
Circulation and tight, unhappy tissue: Hemorrhoids, varicose discomfort, old scars, and tight fascia all get named because DMSO brings blood back and helps tight tissue let go a little. Leslie used it with aloe on hemorrhoids.
Cancer support: In alt-health circles DMSO is used as a carrier, a free radical scavenger, a “differentiation” idea from old lab work, and sometimes in clinic IVs with bicarbonate for comfort in advanced disease.
Radiation and the aftermath of injury: Older papers talk about DMSO protecting tissue from radiation injury and from the oxidative burst after trauma. That is the same radical-mop job, in a scarier room.
Stings and bites: Get away from the nest. Check breathing. Use Benadryl if the body is lighting up. Wipe the skin. Then use the dilute spray. Ice still helps. Elevation still helps. Face, neck, tongue, wheeze, or faint means you leave.

How DMSO Carries Almost Any Remedy You Already Trust
This is the quiet superpower, and it is why the bottle earns a place next to the oils and the magnesium instead of living alone on a “weird solvent” shelf.
Healthy skin is a wall on purpose. The outer layer, the stratum corneum, is made of flattened cells packed with lipids, like bricks with a thin mortar of oil. That wall keeps water in and the world out. When skin is dry and weathered the mortar gets crumbly. Ordinary oils sit on top of that crust and shine for an hour. They do not always reach the living layers underneath, the dermis where repair actually happens.
DMSO changes the conversation with that wall. It mixes with water and with fats. It loosens the hydrogen bonds that hold the outer skin tight, makes the membranes a little more fluid, and walks through without tearing the tissue up. Small helpers walk with it.
Pretty much any clean supplement or remedy you already like can ride that door if it will dissolve or suspend in the mix. Magnesium. Colloidal silver. Frankincense. Tea tree. Aloe. Vitamin E. A measured herbal extract. The rule is simple and strict. Only put on the skin what you are willing to invite deeper. A cheap fragrance oil, a dirty counter, and yesterday’s lawn chemical will take the same door.

Detox and the Invisible Load
We live in an invisible war of additives, metals, mold, and whatever they are willing to put in the sky and the water. Most of the work that actually moves that pile is slow. Clean food. Clean water. Binders. Sweat. Sun. Sleep. One small change at a time. DMSO steps into that same pile and does two jobs the body can feel.
First, it mops hydroxyl free radicals. Metals, mold byproducts, radiation, and a lot of industrial chemicals throw off that particular spark. Tissue under that kind of fire inflames, swells, and ages faster than it should. A radical scavenger in the cabinet is first aid for burnt tissue.
Second, it opens membranes. That is why the magnesium in my night spray does not just sit on top of my skin. That is why a binder you already take may have a better chance of meeting what it came for.

Animals, Emergencies, and the Bottle by the Door
Most of us have a cat or a dog. Some of us have a barn on top of that. Animals cannot tell you the garlic taste started. They can lick a wet coat. They can go downhill faster than we do. So this section is for the 2 a.m. version of the cabinet.
Everyday animal uses people already write about: Hot spots. Itchy patches. Swollen pads. A twist or a bruise after a wild afternoon. Raj cleared skin trouble on every cat in the house. A 10 to 25 percent mix with aloe is a kind place to start on a small animal. Paint the spot, keep them busy for a minute, and watch.
Stings: Same rules as Eric. Get them away from the nest. Check breathing. Many households already keep Benadryl for pets at one milligram per pound. Wipe the skin. Use the spray. Watch them closely reapplying often.
Snakebite: This is the emergency that earns a dedicated bottle. Copperheads and their cousins are a real threat hiding in a lot of our yards. A venomous bite is an emergency vet visit. Antivenom, fluids, and a clinic are the main event. DMSO is what you put on while somebody else is already driving to the er.
Get the animal in the truck. Give the Benadryl dose you already use if you have it. Shave or clip around the strike if you can do it without wasting time. Smear 99.9 percent pharmaceutical DMSO on the bite and a glistening ring around the swelling. Soak 4 or 5 gauze pads with the dmso and cover the stroke site. Wrap the area holding the gauze pads in place so the DMSO stays on the animal. Ask the clinic for fluids and for the steroid support they use in these cases.
Snake Bite Kit
One glass bottle of 99.9 percent pharmaceutical DMSO labeled for snake and emergency use. A pair of gloves. A towel.
The everyday spray still handles wasps and hot spots. The emergency bottle is for the day a copperhead tags a leg.

User Testimonials
Kim: She was on a trip and turned her ankle hard enough that it looked like a grade 2 sprain. She could not bear weight. She taped it, stopped at a Tractor Supply, mixed DMSO with olive oil and massaged it in before bed. The next morning she did not need the crutches they had just bought. She was back on her bike in four days and back in pickleball in eight.
Raj: After a second chemo cycle he had intestinal pain. He took 20 milliliters of 99 percent DMSO mixed with the juice of one lemon, then 10 milliliters the next day. He said it cleared by the third or fourth day. The cats in that house cleared skin trouble with DMSO too.
Bruce: He used a 50 to 70 percent topical mix on peripheral neuropathy and said the pain dropped by about 60 percent over four weeks.
And then there is Eric. The family that rolled their eyes drove him back at daylight for another wash. Emma told me last night that he is completely healed now! In days he recovered from being attacked by hundreds of aggressive wasps who put countless stings all over his legs, feet, arms, face, neck, head, and chest. What an amazing success story! The comment section was filled with hundred of questions and success stories. Here are a few…

DMSO Q&A from the Comments on the last DMSO Blog

Tina: She has MS with lesions are on her spine. She wanted to know if topical along the back was worth trying. Absolutely! Apply it topically and keep the skin away from toxins after.
Christine: She asked if it helps fungal infections. Yes! DMSO can carry an antifungal into a patch that has been ignoring cream. She used it that way and wrote back in two days: drastic improvement.
Beth: She asked about a dilute nasal spray or drops for a chronic sinus that would not answer antibiotics, after a young man swam downstream of a chicken plant. A very dilute nasal wash is used often for stubborn infections.
Leslie: She asked for information on hemorrhoids. Topical 50 to 70 percent with aloe on clean skin.
Bruce: He asked whether there is evidence DMSO helps peripheral neuropathy. Yes! Pain nerves quiet down and circulation comes back to tissue that has been starving.
Greg: He asked about ocular edema and he was not enthused about injections in the eye. We learned people have used dmso with success!
Mommato11: She asked if DMSO helps mold toxicity. Ycotoxins inflame tissue and throw off hydroxyl free radicals. DMSO mops those sparks, quiets the swelling, and opens the door so the binders and antifungals you already use can reach rooms that were shut.
Cornelia: She uses it topically whenever she gets joint pain and it healed her tennis elbow in two or three days. She also uses it topically while fighting pulmonary fibrosis,.
C R: Garlic oyster taste? That is dimethyl sulfide leaving through the breath and the skin. He tasted oyster in seconds from two Achilles tendons.
Sue: Mix with silver, olive oil, aloe, lemon, frankincense, tea tree, or castor oil? Yes, if the ingredients are clean. She put DMSO under castor for a bunion. Good idea!

DMSO Silver Solution
5 ounces pharmaceutical-grade DMSO
5 ounces 50 ppm colloidal silver
2 tablespoons tea tree oil
Aloe juice to fill a 16 ounce spray bottle
My husband sprayed this on after a shower for a couple of weeks when psoriasis covered about 90 percent of him, including the joints. He said it burned like hell for about thirty seconds. Then the plaques started melting off! I spray that same bottle on my face before moisturizer. Clean face, spray, let it settle, then moisturizer.
Two tablespoons of tea tree sounds like a lot until you watch skin that has been through it. Mine likes it. The DMSO is why the silver, the tea tree, and the moisturizer finally have a door into skin that used to hold them on the surface.

Magnesium Bedtime Spray
I used to mix two cups of magnesium-flake water with two cups of distilled water, then add the oils and DMSO, and wonder why a 16-ounce bottle looked offended. That batch is closer to a quart. Here is the version that actually caps on a 16-ounce glass spray bottle and keeps the same ratios.
2 cups Dead Sea Salt Flakes
2 cups distilled water
2 ounces pharmaceutical-grade DMSO
2 tablespoons jojoba oil
2 tablespoons lavender oil
The magnesium is the muscle and sleep piece. The lavender is the nervous system piece. The jojoba keeps skin from drying out. The DMSO is the reason those oils do not just sit on top of dry skin.
Update October 3
I have another amazing example of how powerful the comment section is in these blogs. A reader asked about Dupuytren’s contracture, the thick cord in the palm that slowly pulls a finger down, and whether DMSO could be used with magnesium oil on it. I did not know the answer, so I looked it up.
While I was reading, I realized the cord they were describing sounded like the scar in my foot from a surgery that went wrong. It knots up under the skin and hurts all the time. I have tried plenty of things on it and nothing had reached that deep, persistent pain and inflammation.
The mix that came up for the palm cord was simple. Equal parts pharmaceutical DMSO and magnesium oil. I mixed up a batch and tried it last night. And the results were so amazing I had to update this blog to share.
I massaged it into the knot and the pain dropped within SECONDS!! I watched the inflammation go down as I worked the scar! Literally before my eyes I watched the inflammation disappear and felt the pain fade away. I was stunned. I knew it worked but this is remarkable!!
I had been using my spray we use on skin and it helped. But it just made it quiet. But the 50/50 combo was the missing link. The pain and information melted away! Win! Magnesium and DMSO are soul mates for this purpose!
I have not found anything else that silences the chronic inflammation like this did ON CONTACT! Anyone who is a skeptic needs to try this to see the instant results. Let the results show you what these words cannot. I see now exactly what happened when Kim sprained her ankle on her trip. And I now have a new spray that goes with me all the time.
I am adding this because a comment taught me the mix and then my own foot showed me what it could do. The questions and the stories in this thread KEEP teaching me and this one was too useful to leave sitting in the comments.

Update Oct 7
I had to come back and update this with something that happened while we were processing chickens. We were on day 2 of 4 and had just gotten started for the day when a yellow jacket stung my husband on the pointer finger of his right hand. A swollen finger would have made the rest of the work slower and meaner. I already knew the bottle could handle a sting because of Emma’s story with Eric so I reached for the spray I had outside with us the second it happened.
We used the Game Changer 50/50 spray and Emma had used a weaker one on Eric and the swelling and the feverish spots came down. We used the stronger mix and the pain stopped on contact. The finger never swelled. The next day he could not remember which finger had been hit and it never itched! If you’ve ever been stung by a yellow jacket you know the itching lasts long after the stinging stops.
We were both glad he got stung. We got to watch it work with our own eyes. Emma’s 30 percent and our 50 percent both shut a sting down. DMSO tackles stings like nothing I have experienced. It truly is a game changer!
As you can see, there isn’t much that ails a body (4 legged or 2) that DMSO can’t help.
Want more examples and user testimonies? Scroll down and check out the comments. Y’all prove exactly what I mean when I say it’s the comments where the learning comes from. Thank you guys for teaching me!
Have you tried DMSO? Tell me your story!
You don’t know what you don’t know ’til you know. And now you know.
