(NaturalHealth365) We’re all aware of the drill after a month (or more) of social distancing – stay at home, avoid contact with other people, and wash your hands. But, good nutrition is one important “anti-COVID strategy” completely ignored by the mainstream media.  Dr. Cheng (as you’ll soon see) wants to change all of that – and, for good reason.

According to Dr. Richard Cheng – an American physician currently in Shanghai, China – getting enough vitamin C daily is essential.  In a recent video, Dr. Cheng discusses the current COVID-19 pandemic; what’s really going on in China – right now; and (most importantly) how to successfully use vitamin C to your advantage.

This is an interview you won’t want to miss because it clearly outlines what you need to do to protect your health.

What is the “optimal” amount of vitamin C?

Dr. Cheng recommends supplementing with vitamin C, since you’re likely not getting the higher amounts your body needs from your diet.  And it’s a safe, relatively inexpensive, and convenient way to support a healthy immune system.  But, instead of taking vitamin C tablets to prevent COVID-19, he recommends taking it in powder form, which is much easier to digest (and absorb).

For adults, he advises a total of 5-10 grams of vitamin C powder daily (that converts to 5,000 to 10,000 mg), broken into two or three servings – throughout the day.  To take, mix the powder in cold or room temperature water and drink it over a couple of hours. For children, 3-5 grams daily is adequate and should be broken into smaller amounts, as well.

These servings will help strengthen the immune system and protect you against viral infections like, COVID-19.

However, if you’re sick, you need the body to absorb as much vitamin C as possible, so his advice is to take 2-3 grams of the powder every couple of hours throughout the day. Dr. Cheng also notes that vitamin C, even in higher amounts, is very safe.

At worst, higher amounts may cause diarrhea – which is why he recommends breaking up your daily intake into smaller amounts and drinking the vitamin C (in water) over a period of two or three hours.

Why you need more vitamin C than you think

The National Institutes of Health recommend that adult men get 90 mg of vitamin C a day and women get 75 mg. So why is Dr. Cheng recommending such high amounts?

First, it’s important to note that many integrative physicians believe that the NIH daily recommendations are far too low in the first place, especially since we deal with pollutants and lifestyle choices that often deplete vitamin C stores from the body. Additionally, when you get sick, vitamin C levels drop dramatically at a point when your body needs it most.

The inflammatory response in the body can affect your nutrient levels, requiring you to aggressively replace nutrients like vitamin C to enable your body to fight off infection.  In fact, most people don’t know that, vitamin C administration is being used successfully to treat COVID-19 – even in patients experiencing severe symptoms.

Of course, instead of waiting until you get sick to begin a vitamin C protocol, the best course of action is to take preventative measures and boost your intake to the 5-10 grams per day that Dr. Cheng recommends to support a strong immune system.
